Extension of Edie’s definitions for pedestrian dynamics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Consistent definitions of important variables in pedestrian flow dynamics are proposed. They are based on the definition of similar variables for road traffic flow from the 1960’s by Edie. The definitions are extended to include multi-class flows where pedestrians move in different directions or have different characteristics. The new definitions provide a foundation of already existing crowd flow models and support their further development and the development of better observation methods. c © 2014 The Authors. Simulation of Pedestrian Dynamics with Macroscopic and Microscopic Mathematical Models
Here, we collect two parts of a research project on the pedestrian flow modeling. Rapid growth in the volume of public transport and the need for its reasonable, efficient planning have made the description and modeling of transport and pedestrian behaviors as important research topics in the past twenty years. First, we present a macroscopic model for the pedestrian flow based on continuum mec...
متن کاملMaster’s Thesis in Mathematics: A multi-class framework for a pedestrian cell transmission model accounting for population heterogeneity
This work is an extension of PedCTM, an aggregate and transient cell transmission model for multidirectional pedestrian flows in which pedestrian characteristics are assumed to be homogeneous across the population considered. Critically, one fundamental diagram relating pedestrian speed and flow to local pedestrian density is employed across the entire population. This work extends the model to...
متن کاملData-driven characterization of pedestrian flows
We propose a novel approach to pedestrian flow characterization. The definitions of density, flow and velocity existing in the literature are extended through a data-driven spatio-temporal discretization framework. The framework is based on three-dimensional Voronoi diagrams. The new definitions are (i) independent from an arbitrarily chosen discretization; (ii) appropriate for the multi-direct...
متن کاملTowards Modeling Activity Scheduling in an Agent-based Model for Pedestrian Dynamics Simulation
In this paper we present an extension of an agentbased model representing pedestrian dynamics in order to include elements related to activity scheduling and the management of events. In particular, we will focus on the guidelines to analyze the scenario, identifying activities and the temporal relationships among them, such as how events that happen in an environment and change its configurati...
